Trish Rowland has more than 28 years of practical teaching and administrative experience in education. She been involved in adult education and mentoring for the majority of her educational career, with direct engagement in family literacy programs. In 1993, Trish started the “Parent Power” Family Literacy Program for the School District of Palm Beach County, in which she created and implemented a comprehensive family literacy program designed to empower parents to increase their literacy skills and to help their children become literate as well. During her tenure with the Department of Adult and Community Ed., she implemented eight “Parent Power” programs in elementary schools and community-based programs.
Trish went on to serve the District as the Adult Basic Education Coordinator. She has been involved in the training of realistic and hands-on techniques to reach adult students state-wide. Trish developed a 4-level performance-based Adult Basic Education curriculum for reading, math and language skills. She has developed multi-media presentations and trainings for best practices with multi-level adult ABE/GED classes and has presented at state-wide conferences on both adult education family literacy programming. Trish has tirelessly spread the importance of literacy in the home and the importance of parent involvement. Her passion in genuine.
Trish founded S. B. Idea, Inc. in 2008, a non-profit organization that strives to create a brighter future through the education of adults and families together. She understands needs of having children read on grade level and has specialized in implementing innovative strategies. She started S. B. Idea on the principle of breaking the chain of illiteracy by reaching the parent and educating the parent and child together. S.B. Idea’s mission molding America’s future generation to reach their full potential by inspiring family values, promoting family involvement, and encouraging family learning.
Trish has a Master’s degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University, She is the co-author of Hearts and Minds, a curriculum for after-school programs that develops literacy skills along with the social and emotional intelligence of children for grades 3-5. Trish has served on many boards including, the City of Delray Beach Education Board, Trinity Lutheran School Board and Take Stock in Children, Palm Beach County, where she has served as a mentor for the past 10 years.
In 2012, Trish co-founded Breakers Island, developed for a shared love of leaning experience for families and children. In support of the stories and virtues in Breakers Island, Trish authored, Learning Activities and Tips to Develop Strong Character.
